eyeHear has captioned conversations for free, with no account and no ads, since December 2017. I build it and I run it.

Who makes it

I'm Nathan Crank. I build and run eyeHear under eyeHear, LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. There's no venture funding behind it and no investors. eyeHear is free: no in-app purchases, no subscription, no ads, and I don't sell your data. It has run that way since December 2017.

Why I built eyeHear

eyeHear started with my father-in-law, who is deaf. Before I knew any ASL, conversation meant passing my iPhone back and forth with Notes open. The first version was a proof of concept for him. He found uses for it I hadn't built it for, so I put it on the App Store. People still share ones I'd never have thought of.

What eyeHear is

eyeHear is an aid for everyday conversation. It is not a substitute for a qualified human interpreter or a CART (Communication Access Real-time Translation) provider, and not a formal accommodation. Captions are machine-generated and get things wrong, most often with accents, background noise, or fast speech. The Accessibility Statement and Terms of Use have the specifics.
