The short version
- The eyeHear app sends us no health information. Your captions and microphone audio never reach our servers.
- Health information reaches us only if you choose to write it in a message to us, such as a support request or a survey answer.
- We use it only to answer you and to improve eyeHear from your feedback. We never sell it and never use it for advertising.
- Our service providers handle it on our behalf, and we don't share it with anyone else.
- You can ask to see it, delete it, or withdraw your consent, and appeal if we say no.
This policy supplements our Privacy Policy. It is the notice that Washington's My Health My Data Act (RCW 19.373) asks us to publish. We apply the same practices to health-related information from residents of Connecticut and other states that treat it as sensitive data.
What we collect, and why
We don't ask for health information. But people who write to us about a captioning app often mention their hearing, so the messages you send may reveal that you are deaf or hard of hearing, or that you use hearing aids or a cochlear implant. That counts as consumer health data. Simply contacting us about a captioning app can also hint at your hearing.
- What: health or hearing details you volunteer in support requests, survey answers, email replies, and messages on the organization interest form.
- Why: only to read and answer you, fix problems, and improve the product based on your feedback. We do not use it for marketing, advertising, or profiling.
- From whom: only from you. We don't buy or receive this information from anyone else.
We collect it so we can answer your message. We ask for your consent, on the form, before we use it to improve eyeHear. You can leave health details out and still write to us.
Who we share it with
We do not sell consumer health data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the service providers below. They process it for us under contracts or service terms that limit their use of it to providing their service to us, only so we can operate the service and respond to you.
- Cloudflare stores and protects our website and support records.
- Resend delivers our emails.
- Google Workspace carries our staff email replies to you.
- Anthropic's Claude helps us process support and survey text. It does not train its models on this data.
Apple is not on this list because the app sends us no health information. The reviews you publish on the App Store are public.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- confirm whether we collect your consumer health data and get a copy of it, including a list of the third parties and affiliates that received it;
- withdraw your consent to our collecting or using it;
- have it deleted. We delete it from our systems and ask our service providers to do the same, and it leaves our recovery backups within 30 days.
To make a request, use our support page or email support@eyehear.app. We may need to confirm it's you before we act. We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we can extend that once by up to 45 more days and will tell you why. If you withdraw consent, we stop using the information to the extent we can, and we won't deny you service for doing so. Deleting some information may not be possible where the law requires us to keep it (see Data Retention in our Privacy Policy).
If we say no: appeal
If we deny your request or you disagree with how we handled it, reply to our response and ask to appeal. Our founder reviews it and answers within 45 days, in writing, with the reasons. If the appeal is denied, you can contact the Washington Attorney General at atg.wa.gov/file-complaint.
